Employees are allowed to be absent from work to attend training while continuing to receive their salary. To compensate for the wage cost, the employer can receive a lump-sum reimbursement.
Employees must be employed at least 80% at the start of the training or work an average of more than 28 hours per week. They may attend up to 125 hours of training per school year.
Certain training courses qualify for Paid Educational Leave (VOV):
- At least 32 contact hours or lessons within a 1-year period
- Different modules from the same training provider may be combined to reach the 32-hour minimum
- Trainings under 32 hours that are listed in the official VOV database are also eligible (they have been pre-approved by VOV)
